My travel route from home to work, involves passing by Big B’s house. If I known that today is his birthday I would have definitely taken a different road. I was stuck in traffic near his residence for about 25 minutes.
The whole street was jammed with television crew, few movie personalities, cops, bouquet wallas, fans, fans and more fans. There were birthday banners put up along the road sides by his fan club and some corporates. In short the whole place was a chaos.
Here are a few pics, I managed to take from my cell phone. Sadly, could’nt get a glimpse of the Birthday Boy.

It’s simply astonishing to see the way this man is worshipped in our country. Termed as Bollywood’s living legend Amitabh Bachchan, he remains one of the most popular faces in Indian cinema. Filmmakers are fully aware that securing Amitabh Bachchan’s name in their cast list ensures better terms amongst distributors, simply because his fan following remains strong. His name was and is enough to draw in the crowds into cinemas.Today, no hero can boast of such charisma as to lure the audiences to theatres on the sheer strength of their names.
With KBC on Star Plus, the ageing actor’s fan following increased even more. Once again, critics derided Amitabh’s foray into television and predicted that this surely would be the end of his career on the big screen. But once again, Bachchan proved his detractors wrong! Rather than adversely affecting his film career, KBC actually gave it a big boost.Talking to them, sharing personal observations with the contestants, calling them by their names, he came closer to his admirers than he ever was. His calm dignity pervaded the small screen. From then on there was no looking back and Bollywood yet again opened its doors for the Big B. The man has managed to pay off most of the debt back to the banks and government agencies, which very few have managed in such a short span of time.
Today, Amitabh is hitting the ad world with a vengeance with industries cashing in on his superstar image to increase sales. Be it for movies, ads or television, this man is loved all over India and equally by Indains abroad. I am sure that the Bachchan magic live on and will never let this superstar fade into oblivion.
I personally feel that Amitabh Bachchan is a good actor and seems to be a decent human being (has donated and helped in loads of causes)BUT this birthday hype is way too much. He is ONLY human afterall. TV, News, Radio, Newspaper..every damn news and entertainment medium are singing birthday songs for him.
The media is making it as the biggest event of the year….I am sure Mr. Bachchan must be quiet amused with all this harping.
On a funny note, here is my short song parody on Amitabh Bachchan -
“hum bhi agar Bachchan hote,
filmi naam hamara hota Natwar, Bandhu…
khane ko milte sone ke ladoo.
aur duniya kahati happy birthday to you.”
