Ahhhh the AMERICANS !!!!
The following is the transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation in October 1995, between a US Navy ship off the coast of England and some British maritime authority.
The transcript was released by the Ministry of Defense on 10/10/1995:-
British voice: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid collision.
American voice: Recommend you divert course 15degrees to the north to avoid a collision.
British voice: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the southto avoid collision.
American voice: This is the Captain of US Navy ship. I say again, divert your course.
British voice: Negative. I say again. You will have to divert your course.
American Voice: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN.THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP INTHE UNITED STATES’ ATLANTIC FLEET.WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS,THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS.WE DEMAND THATYOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH.I REPEAT CHANGE COURSE 15DEGREES TO NORTH OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THESAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
British Voice: We are a LIGHTHOUSE you moron. Just divert your course if want to save your ass!!

We all have a right to express our views. In many instances; it will be against ours and in some; with us. To hear them out is 'decency' but to let them get to you is 'weakness'.

Beg to differ…
but this story is a hoax and a very common internet joke.
Here are some links that prove the point.

On the other hand, the joke does convey the attitude of Americans. I can attest to that, living here.

Arzan,
As they say ‘Where is smoke there is fire’, this story might be a HOAX and just a common internet joke…but as you said it does reflect the mentality/attitude of the Americans.
And thats what the story/joke is meant to convey.
